Beautiful Bologna

Our host city, Bologna, is the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region and one of the wealthiest and most developed regions in Italy & Europe, often known as the Italian Silicon Valley thanks to it having the largest number of companies per inhabitant in Italy and it being home to world-famous manufactures with great tradition, such as Ducati and Maserati.

It is also a UNESCO protected world heritage city with a large medieval city, the world’s oldest university, countless porticoes and towers and last, but most important, home to some of the best food in Italy. It also a compact and walkable city, making it easy to roam around the centre and enjoy everything Bologna has to offer.

A fun fact is that Bologna is nicknamed by locals as ‘la dotta’, ‘la grassa’, or ‘la rossa’ (the learned, the fat, or the red), derived from three characteristics that define the city: it being the birthplace of the university, its mouthwatering cuisine, and its enduring connection to left-wing politics.
